DON’T BE TOO IMPRESSED- NOTHING NEW
One of the things I have enjoyed as a mom is when our children make discoveries of either a skill or some knowledge. I so enjoy when they display their new found skill saying, “mommy you can’t do this! I usually smile and simply say NOT LIKE YOU, while adding their name. Behind their backs I shake my head and smile some more. I just let them WIN. It is important for children to win and win early in life and I believe home is the place to begin.
Like children we have experiences in our lives which are amazing to us. The exposure and hands on opportunities energize us and depending on what it is; we feel accomplished, like we are progressing, cutting our own path and even LARGE and IN CHARGE. These are beautiful.
However, like my children we can think the things we are experiencing are so NEW and ground breaking; different from our parents and others who are before us. We feel SO WISE, we think others are FOSSILS and are lacking so we question their knowledge and competence viciously challenging and disregarding their advice or counsel, even feeling they SHOULD BE REPLACED.
Friends, we much each be given a chance to live and learn. We must each self actualize! We must each have our own story. However, I encourage us that because we each have the same human nature and are not really different to each other we should be careful to listen to and learn from others.
NOT EVERYONE who is not impressed with you, challenges, questions or even rebukes you HATES you! Not everyone is trying to STEAL YOUR THUNDER; DULL YOUR SHINE or BLOCK YOUR BLESSING. Some people are ACTUALLY WISER than us; THEY CARE and have LIVED LONG ENOUGH to see trouble even when disguised and understand Ecclesiastes 1:9 which says, “what has been will be again,what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun”.
I believe many of us have become IMPRESSED with ourselves and too many of us are trying to be SELF-MADE and end up making really bad mistakes! Yes some people don’t believe in us, hate us, bad talk us, close doors on us, try to control us etcetra. BUT there are MORE who do the opposite. We must be carful to be reachable and teachable. Follow the counsel of God’s word, learn from others and make sound choices. Let us not be too impressed with ourselves. For sooner than later we will find it’s NOTHING NEW!!! Same rules apply friend!
